eScape is a lightweight Windows application whose purpose is to help you create EPUB files from Open Office documents using a set of straightforward actions. The utility works with a single file format, XHTML.

The GUI looks simple to decode and embeds only a few configuration settings. There’s no support for a help manual, so you need to experiment with the built-in features in order to understand how it works.

You are allowed to manually specify the input file (XHTML file format), pick the preferred CSS type from a drop-down list, as well as assign a user-defined cover by adding an image from your personal collection.

What’s more, you can generate contents page, create chapter numbers and pick the number pattern (decimal or Roman). Other configuration settings hidden under the hood allow you to choose the locations for various items, namely input file, cover, CSS and EPUB.

Based on the input XHTML file and CSS structure, the utility is able to automatically generate EPUB files with contents page and chapter numbers.

The process is pretty much automatic so eScape doesn’t offer support for many customization options. You cannot preview the document in the primary panel and select the pages to include in the EPUB file, so you need to prepare the files before converting them to EPUB file format.

All things considered, eScape delivers a straightforward software solution for helping you create EPUB files, and can be mastered by beginners and professionals alike. The only problem is that the application hasn’t benefited from an update from a while, so you may experience some compatibility issues on newer operating systems like Windows 8/8.1.
